And ... we're ready!

It's done! The nursery is finally done! Tons of pictures below. I really love how it all came out!

The mobile and the Gentle Giraffe.

The artwork came today! I'm loving it! In the corner is a pillow that my mom got that as a spot for a picture. I can't wait for Baby Rhody to be here and put our FAMILY picture in there!

The giant elephant! Our first baby purchase, lol.

Changing table / hutch.

All ofthese stuffed animals were the centerpieces at my shower, with balloons tied to them. What a great idea!!

We are totally going to have the most well-read infant on the block.

I love this lamp. I think it's the cutest!

Finishing the nursery

Yeah, I know, I'm at 37.5 weeks. I probably should have done this already, but I finally TODAY found wall art that I like at a reasonable price.

Here's the art that I just ordered from babysupermall.com. It's part of the Jungle 123 collection.

As a refresher, here is the bedding we have.

We have mixed in a bunch of other things, so it looks much less theme-y. Also, my friend used stuffed animals for centerpieces at the shower, so I have a bunch of animals already that totally go with the theme.

I can't wait for the art to come so I can finally take pictures of everything finished. Now it will just be a race: will Baby Rhody come first or will we finish the nursery first??

Nursery furniture!

So we had a busy weekend! We spent all day yesterday ironing and hanging curtains and rolling out the new rug that we bought at Target. Today, the furniture was delivered, and we put the crib together. The room on the small side, so I had some worries about how everything was going to fit, but I think it fits perfectly! I am still debating if we have room to fit a glider in the room, but we'll see!

I do still want to make tie-backs for the brown curtains, but that's a project for another week! No decorating yet, but that's to come as well!
Also, we spent a lot of this weekend putting together our cloth wipes. They are double-sided with one side (the print) flannel and plain white terrycloth on the other side. It took a little while to measure and stitch them all, but we ended up with 32! I think it's a great start to our stash!

Waiting for paint - the nursery update

So I have no updated pictures since my last nursery post since the room looks about the same from far away. If you look closely, though, you can see that a lot of work took place this weekend!

As I mentioned on the previous post, the walls had been painted with a super-textured paint at some point. Well, the people who did this weren't careful and painted that texture right up on the crown moldings as well! Also, the previous owners had wired the phone lines on the baseboards and then painted over it. The meant when we pulled the phone lines off, there was a rough paint ridge going around the room!

Well, thanks to Mr. Rhody, those issues have been resolved now. The wood has all been smoothed down, the cracks in the ceiling have been patched, and the skim coat the plasterers put on has been sanded. We're ready for paint!

This weekend, we also picked out new light fixtures for the nursery and our other room. While the nursery light fixture had that cool retro thing going, I really do prefer fixtures that are flush to the ceiling to limit the detritus that gets caught in the glass. We went pretty cheap and got a 2-pack from Home Depot for something that we figured would blend into the room easily.

Next weekend, we'll start priming and hopefully painting the ceiling! There still feels like there's so much to do, but I know we'll get there!

Wednesday nursery update!

I'm still on schedule, with my third update of the week! Today it's time to share what's going on with the nursery.

First, this is what that room, formerly the office, looked like until about a couple of months ago.

It took a LOT of time and effort (and a few trips to the Salvation Army) to rearrange everything to combine our spare room and office. I was surprised at how big the room looked when it was empty! Make sure you check out the awesome light fixture that's in there now.

The biggest issue that we needed to attack in this room were the walls. The previous owners painted with some textured paint that reminded me of stucco! Clearly this is not the sort of wall you'd think of for a nursery where you will have a little one running into walls!

We were going to attack the walls ourselves, but my co-worker convinced me to get a semi-professional plasterer in here to do them. I'm glad we did. In only half a day on Tuesday, all of the "stucco" was smoothed over, and our walls look like new!

Next up, we'll be attacking the moldings and getting the walls prepped for painting. Yay for progress! There is still a lot to do though, but it will keep us busy!
